Ghana drawn alongside Morocco, Congo and Guinea at U23 AFCON draw
Ghana U-23 men’s team, the Black Meteors, have been drawn in the same group as hosts Morocco in a tough passage to the U23 Africa Cup of Nations semis after with Guinea and Congo completing the group.
The draw, attended by African legends Patrick Mboma and Aziz Bouderbala, was conducted in Rabat, Morocco on Friday.
Ghana secured their place in the tournament after beating Algeria 2-1 on aggregate in March, thanks to goals from Fatawu Issahaku, who converted diligent passes from Ernest Nuamah in both legs.
In the final tournament’s opener of the U23 Africa Cup of Nations, Ghana will face Morocco on Saturday 24 June 2023 at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex in Rabat with the match will kicking off at 21:00 local time (20:00 GMT).
In Group A, Ghana is housed with Morocco, Congo and Guinea. Group B features holders Egypt, Mali, Gabon and Niger in what promises to be a high-flying show.
The U23 Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2023 will take place between 24 June to 08 July 2023 in the cities of Rabat and Tangier.
Group A matches will be held at Rabat’s Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex while Group B matches will take place at the Grand Stade de Tanger, in Tangier.
The tournament serves as a qualifying event for the Olympic Games in Paris next year, and the Black Meteors, who narrowly missed out on qualification four years ago, are hoping to make it this time around.
They have missed out on the Olympic Games on the last four occasions and are eager to redeem themselves after 20 years.
