Ghana Expands ECOWAS Free Roaming Initiative to Togo and Benin, Eliminating Cross-Border Mobile Fees
Ghana has expanded its participation in the ECOWAS Free Roaming Initiative by entering into bilateral agreements with Togo and Benin, a move designed to eliminate international mobile roaming charges between the three countries.
The agreement was officially launched by Ghana’s Deputy Minister for Communications and Digitalisation, Charles Acheampong.
This extension builds on an earlier partnership between Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire, which saw citizens of both nations able to use their mobile services across borders without incurring additional fees.
The inclusion of Togo and Benin will further enhance regional mobility, allowing for seamless cross-border communication for travelers and businesses alike.
The ECOWAS Roaming Initiative forms part of a broader effort by the regional bloc to improve digital infrastructure and connectivity, with the ultimate aim of fostering deeper economic integration across West Africa.
The initiative aligns with Ghana’s ambition to reduce barriers to digital access, strengthen regional cooperation, and promote a more interconnected West African economy.
