Ghana face Rwanda in 2024 WAFCON Qualifier
Ghana’s Black Queens have been drawn against Rwanda in the first phase of the 2024 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations(WAFCON) qualifiers.
The opponents were revealed during draw ceremony held in Rabat on Thursday, July 6.
Winner of the two legged fixture will proceed to play against winner of the match between The Gambia and Namibia in the second Round.
Morocco by virtue of being hosts, will not engage in the qualifiers that are set for August this year.
Reigning champions, South Africa along with 3rd place finishers, Zambia will only engage in the qualifiers during the second round.
Senegal kick off their campaign against Mozambique while South Sudan were set up with a tie against Egypt.
Eleven-time African champions, Nigeria were drawn against Sao Tome and Principe who will have an uphill battle against the former champions.
The Democratic Republic of Congo face Benin, with the winner facing either Equatorial Guinea or Libya in the next round.
Cape Verde have a tricky encounter against Liberia while Algeria will be looking at making a good return to the tournament when facing Uganda.
Togo who are aiming for their second participation in the tournament must first overcome Djibouti.
The Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon take on Kenya, with the winner having to face the victor between Gabon and Botswana
Quarter-finalists at Morocco 2022, Tunisia will play Niger with the winner setting up a match against the winner between Guinea Bissau and Congo in the second round.
The first round of qualifiers are expected to take place from 18-26 September, 2023 while the second round is scheduled for 27 November to 5 December, 2023.
Eleven (11) teams are expected to qualify from the second round to join host Morocco for the main tournament.
