Ghana Football Association Implements New Medical Regulations to Enhance Player Welfare
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has taken a significant step towards improving player health and welfare by approving new Medical Regulations for the upcoming 2025/26 league season. The Executive Council’s decision aims to set comprehensive standards for medical care across all levels of football in the country.
The key objectives of the new regulations focus on several critical areas:
– Improving Clinical Care and Governance: Establishing clear standards for medical care and governance in football.
– Building a Nationwide Football Medicine Community: Promoting collaboration and knowledge sharing among medical professionals involved in football.
– Conducting Impactful Research and Education: Facilitating research and educational initiatives in football medicine to enhance understanding and practices.
– Promoting Equity and Diversity: Ensuring equal access to football medicine knowledge for all stakeholders.
Dr. Abena Yeboaa Tannor, who leads the Medical Committee, will oversee the implementation and adherence to these regulations. The GFA plans to distribute copies of the regulations to clubs and publish them on its official website, reinforcing its commitment to player welfare and adherence to global best practices in sports medicine.
