Ghana is Africa’s 8th largest crude oil producer

With a daily crude oil production output of 176,000 barrels in 2021, Ghana has been ranked among African countries with the largest oil production on the African Continent.

Ghana, among top ten oil producing African countries was ranked the eighth largest producer of crude oil on the continent.

Total oil production output by Ghana in 2021 amounted to some 57.30 million barrels, a decline from the 66.93 million barrels produced in 2020. 

Trailing behind Ghana were Equatorial Guinea and Chad with daily oil production outputs of 71,000 barrels and 70,000 barrels respectively.

Nigeria, maintained its position as the Continent’s largest oil producer with a daily production output of 1.27 million barrels.

Closely following the African economic giant is Libya with a daily production output of 1.21 million barrels.

However, in terms oil reserves, Libya leads Nigeria with some extra 11.5 million barrels of oil.

Per a report by Statista, Nigeria has some 36.9 million barrels of oil in reserves whereas Libya has some 48.4 million barrels of oil in reserves.

10 African countries with the largest crude oil production output in 2021
  • Nigeria: This West African country was the largest crude producer in 2021. Nigeria’s average daily crude production was 1.27 million barrels.
  • Libya: Nigeria was followed by this Northern African country which produced an average of 1.21 million barrels of crude per day in 2021.
  • Angola: The oil-rich country produced a daily average of 1.11 million barrels of crude.
  • Algeria: This Northern African country produced an average of 959, 000 barrels of crude per day.
  • Egypt: Egypt produced 559, 000 barrels per day.
  • Republic of the Congo: This country’s production output in 2021 stood at a daily average of 253, 000 barrels.
  • Gabon: Gabon’s production output stood at an average of 188, 000 per day.
  • Ghana: The West African country’s daily crude production output in 2021 was 176, 000 barrels.
  • Equatorial Guinea: The average daily production output in this country was 71, 000 barrels.
  • Chad: Production output was 70, 000 barrels per day.
