Ghana Mourns Highlife Legend Daddy Lumba
Ghanaian music icon, Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, has passed away at the age of 60.
The celebrated highlife musician died in the early hours of Saturday, July 26, 2025, at the Bank Hospital in Accra after a short illness. His death was announced by the Fosu family in a statement released through their legal representative, Fati Ali Yallah, Esq. of Baba Jamal & Associates.
Describing the late musician as more than an entertainer, the family eulogised Daddy Lumba as “a cultural icon whose music served as the emotional soundtrack of Ghanaian life for decades.”
“His soulful voice provided the soundtrack to our love stories, and his poignant lyrics captured the poetry of our struggles, dreams, and resilience,” the statement read.
Daddy Lumba’s contribution to Ghana’s music industry is considered unparalleled. With a career spanning over four decades, the multiple award-winning artist released more than 30 albums, blending highlife with gospel and contemporary love ballads to redefine modern Ghanaian music.
He was widely admired not only for his musical versatility but also for mentoring a generation of artists, many of whom have gone on to become household names.
Tributes have since flooded social media, with fans, industry players, and public figures expressing their grief and celebrating the enduring legacy of a man many considered the voice and soul of Ghanaian music.
The family has requested privacy during this period of mourning and noted that funeral details will be announced in due course.
