Ghana Premier League: Kotoko Back on Top as Hearts of Oak Deny Gold Stars

Asante Kotoko leapfrogged Gold Stars FC to retake the top spot in the Ghana Premier League with a 1-0 win over Basake Holy Stars on Sunday March 23, 2025.

Samuel Tenadu’s 14th minute strike separated the two at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi and ensures the Porcupine Warriors return to the top of the table of the Ghanaian top-flight.
Kotoko are back on top of the table after other results went in their favour following Gold Stars FC’s failure to win at home.

Gold Stars FC slipped to second in the Premier League table after an injury-time equaliser from Stephen Appiah denied them maximum points as they drew 1-1 against Hearts of Oak at home on Sunday.

The host led through Gideon Anaba’s 79th minute penalty before Appiah drew things level with a fine finish in the 92nd minute.

Hearts remain in fourth position and return to winning ways after recording back-to-back defeats.

Dreams FC continued their resurgence with a vital 1-0 win over Young Apostles FC at home on March 23.
Abdul Razak Salifu scored the decisive goal nine minute to regulation time to hand the Believers back-t0-back wins and steer clear of the relegation battle.

Karim Zito’s men now find themselves in mid-table after a difficult start to the season.

Goals from defender Yusuf Mubarik and forward Michael Sarpong helped Medeama SC beat Aduana FC 2-0 in the Premier League on Sunday as Ibrahim Tanko’s side returned to winning ways.

Mubarik put the home side in front in the 55th minute through the spot kick before Michael Sarpong doubled the advantage in the 76th minute.

It’s a big relief for the Mauve and Yellow after suffering two successive defeats prior to Sunday’s victory against the Fire Club. They now lie 7th in the table with 35 points, while Aduana find themselves in 12th position.

Accra Lions secured a precious win in their bid for Premier League survival as they beat relegation rivals Legon Cities 2-1 on Sunday.

Ernest Agyensem opened the scoring for the home side as early as the 5th minute before Cities responded well to their unflattering start as Frank Akoto pulled parity.

However, Musa Hamzata scored the match winning goal in the 45th minute to separate the two teams at the University of Ghana Stadium.

Given how congested the bottom half of the table has been this season –this felt like a game that could have a significant impact on the battle for survival.

Despite the win, Accra Lions remain bottom but with an improved 20 points from 23 games.

FC Samartex 1996 maintained their long unbeaten stretch with a goalless draw at Berekum Chelsea on Sunday.
The Timber giants last lost a Premier League match was back in December 2024. They continued their decent run after picking a vital point on the road.

The two teams failed to overcome each other as they shared the points at the Golden City Park.
Samartex lie 8th with 32 points while Chelsea find themselves in 10th position with 29 points.

Karela United rallied from behind to beat Bechem United 2-1 at the Aliu Mahama Stadium in Tamale.
Emmanuel Abban put the visitors ahead in the 45th minute before Baba Moro Abdulai turned the ball into his own net to level matters.

Eric Antwi scored the decisive goal in the 81st minute to hand United the precious win at home.
The Prids and Passion are just above the drop zone in 15th position with 22 points.

Vision FC failed to make home advantage count after drawing 0-0 with Nations FC at the Nii Adjei Kraku II Sports Complex on Sunday March 23, 2025.

Their difficulty in turning games into wins and accumulating points is clearly having an impact on their standings as they lie 13th in the table. Nations FC lie 6th in the Premier League table after 23 matches.
