Ghana Weightlifting Federation Unveils Renovated National Training Center
The Ghana Weightlifting Federation (GWF) celebrated a significant milestone with the official commissioning of the newly renovated National Weightlifting Training Center at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The event, led by GWF President and Member of Parliament for Weija-Gbawe, Jerry Ahmed Shaib, marks a pivotal moment for the sport in the country.
After being non-operational for nearly a year, the training center has undergone extensive upgrades designed to enhance training conditions for athletes. At the commissioning ceremony, Shaib praised the dedication of the federation’s members and highlighted the importance of the renovations.
“As many of you know, this gym has not been operational for close to a year as it underwent much-needed renovations to upgrade its facilities,” Shaib stated. “Today, we are not just here to celebrate the reopening of a physical space, but to celebrate a vision—a vision of growth, progress, and success for the sport of weightlifting in Ghana.”
The revamped center is not only intended for Ghana’s national weightlifters but will also welcome international athletes, fostering a spirit of collaboration and competition.
Shaib emphasized the center’s role in nurturing young talent and enhancing Ghana’s competitiveness on the global stage.
“The key objective of the training center is to provide better training facilities for Ghanaian weightlifters and also colleagues from other nationalities who might want to come into the country to train,” he explained. “We want to promote weightlifting as a sport and a lifestyle in Ghana.”
