Ghana’s Black Satellites Draw Tough Group for 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations

Ghana’s Black Satellites have learned their group opponents for the upcoming 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, which is set to take place in CĂ´te d’Ivoire from April 26 to May 18.

Under the guidance of head coach Desmond Ofei, the Ghanaian team will face a challenging lineup, including hosts Ivory Coast, Tanzania, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The draw, which took place at the Confederation of African Football (CAF) headquarters in Cairo, Egypt, revealed that Ghana will be in a competitive group as they aim for glory in the prestigious tournament. The Black Satellites will also be joined by a representative from UNIFFAC 2, adding another layer of complexity to their campaign.

A total of 13 teams were drawn into three groups of four or five, setting the stage for an exciting road to the African Championship and the subsequent FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile later this year. The draw was conducted with the assistance of former Mali international Adama Coulibaly and ex-Senegal star Souleymane Camara, who added their insights to the occasion.

The tournament will feature a diverse array of teams, including North African powerhouses Egypt and Morocco, defending champions Senegal, and Sierra Leone from WAFU A. WAFU B includes Ghana, Nigeria, and hosts CĂ´te d’Ivoire, while Tanzania and Kenya represent CECAFA, and South Africa and Zambia come from COSAFA.

The format of the tournament allows the top two teams from each group to advance to the knockout stages, along with the two best third-placed teams. This will lead to a series of knockout matches, including the quarterfinals, semifinals, third-place match, and ultimately the final.
