Ghana’s entrepreneurs with disabilities advocate for inclusive agribusiness policies

In an address at the Ghana Social Enterprise Forum, themed “Transformational Leadership in Agribusiness: Developing New Champions for the Agribusiness Sector,” Alex Tetteh, President of the Ghana Chamber of Entrepreneurs with Disabilities, emphasized the Chamber’s commitment to advancing its members’ involvement in agribusiness.

Mr Tetteh urged the government to foster an enabling environment for entrepreneurs with disabilities to actively participate in the sector.

Speaking at the forum, Mr Tetteh outlined significant challenges faced by the Chamber’s members, citing issues such as limited access to lands for farming. Notably, he raised concerns about discriminatory policies, specifically pointing to the Planting for Food and Jobs (PFJ) initiative, which currently does not encompass farmers with disabilities.

He therefore called for government intervention to address these challenges and foster a more inclusive agribusiness landscape.

The President of the Ghana Chamber of Entrepreneurs with Disabilities urged the government to formulate comprehensive policies, social interventions, and protection programs tailored to support farmers with disabilities.

The call for inclusive measures aligns with the Chamber’s mission to ensure that entrepreneurs with disabilities actively participate and thrive in the agricultural sector.
