Ghana’s Sports Minister Urges Envoys to Promote Country as Investment Hub for Sports and Recreation

Kofi Adams, Ghana’s Minister for Sports and Recreation, has called on the nation’s Ambassadors and High Commissioners to actively promote Ghana as a leading destination for investment in sports and recreation. His remarks were made during the Conference of Heads of Mission and Orientation Programme for Newly Appointed Envoys, which took place on September 4, 2025.

The conference, organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, brought together envoys and experts from various sectors to discuss strategies for advancing Ghana’s Economic Diplomacy Agenda, a key component of the government’s reset plan.

In his address, Adams highlighted several strategic investment opportunities within the sports and recreation sector. He stated, “We have significant potential in areas like infrastructure development and facility management, fitness and health promotion industries, youth academies for talent identification and development, as well as sports apparel and equipment manufacturing and distribution.”

The Minister encouraged envoys to explore Public-Private Partnership (PPP) arrangements in these sectors, assuring them of the government’s commitment to fostering an enabling environment for collaboration. He emphasized the importance of these partnerships in unlocking Ghana’s potential as a sports investment hub.

Adams also outlined a series of policy interventions aimed at strengthening the sports sector. These include:

– The Sports Development Fund: Recently approved by the Cabinet, this fund is set to be presented to Parliament and aims to offer sustainable solutions to the long-term financing challenges faced by sports and recreation in the country.

– The National Recreation and Wellness Programme: This initiative focuses on promoting mass participation, wellness, and inclusiveness through community-based integration, anchored on National Aerobics Day.

– The School Sports Revitalisation Agenda: Designed to establish systematic pathways for youth sports development (U12–U20), this agenda will collaborate with the Ministry of Education, the Ghana Education Service, and tertiary institutions to restore Ghana’s grassroots sporting culture.

The Minister stressed that these initiatives reflect the government’s broader commitment to reshaping Ghana’s sports and recreation landscape. He aims to ensure sustainability through partnerships while positioning the country as a competitive global hub for sports diplomacy, talent development, and investment opportunities.
