Ghana’s U-15 Girls Crowned Champions of 2025 African Schools Football Championship, Pocketing $300,000 Prize

Ghana’s U-15 girls’ team etched their name into history by winning the 2025 African Schools Football Championship (ASFC) with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Uganda at the University of Ghana Stadium. This triumph not only secures the championship title but also comes with a substantial cash prize of $300,000 for the young champions.

A Stellar Tournament Run

The Black Damsels demonstrated remarkable skill and determination throughout the tournament. After an unbeaten run in the group stage, where they achieved victories over Morocco, Benin, and Malawi, they advanced to the semi-finals. In a thrilling encounter, they edged past defending champions South Africa with a 3-2 win to secure their spot in the final.

Championship Match Highlights

Despite heavy rains threatening to disrupt the final, Ghana’s U-15 girls remained relentless. The match began with an early scare as an error from goalkeeper Precious nearly gifted Uganda an opener, but the team quickly regained composure. Both Daniella Abass and Hajara Adam came close to scoring, yet the first half ended goalless.

After the break, the momentum shifted decisively in Ghana’s favor. Belinda Kpentey opened the scoring following a brilliant setup from Christiana Ashiaku, who sprinted onto a loose ball and delivered a perfect cross. Daniella Abass then added a second goal, showcasing her composure and skill, giving Ghana a 2-0 lead.
