Gold Fileds, Kosmos Energy battle GRA’s back tax bills
Mining giant Gold Fields and oil company Kosmos Energy are among several corporations in Ghana disputing back tax bills issued by the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).
The companies have declined to reveal the financial details of the dispute.
Gold Fields spokesman Sven Lunsche stated that Ghana is currently facing fiscal and economic challenges, and the company is hopeful that the government will not implement measures that could further harm the corporate sector.
MTN, which has been ordered to pay $776 million in back taxes, is under pressure to reach an agreement with Ghanaian authorities by a set deadline.
Meanwhile, Kosmos Energy, based in Dallas, claims the authorities’ assertion that the company underpaid taxes and other obligations is without merit and will be vigorously disputed if necessary.
