Government gave all the support yet we failed – GFA President

President of the Ghana Football Association, Kurt Okraku, has admitted the GFA and the Black Stars had all the necessary support to perform and yet they failed.

Speaking on Asempa FM, Kurt Okraku admitted the team enjoyed all the necessary support in terms of cooperation, finance and logistics from the government through the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

“The government, like I said from the beginning, gave us all the support. From the President of the land to the sector minister, they gave us all the support. We had a group of dedicated players, unfortunately, their effort was not enough,” Kurt said.

Despite the massive logistical and financial support the GFA had from the government to ensure the best for the Black Stars, the team recorded Ghana’s worst performance ever in the history of the African Cup of Nations in their 23 times of participation.

The Black Stars and the Ghana Football Association are under fire from the public for the abysmal display at the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon.

The Black Stars of Ghana who many thought will win the nation’s first trophy in 40 years was eliminated after a humiliating 3:2 to defeat AFCON debutants Comoros.

Angry Ghanaians are laying blames on some leading members of the Ghana Football Association and the management team of the Black Stars of using the Black Stars as an avenue to pursue their parochial interests leaving the nation unrecognised.

Ghana have never flourished under second comings and a number of Ghanaians have also accused the GFA of hiding behind a 3-member committee made up of Dr. Randy Abbey, Mark Addo and Salifu Zida to appoint a coach who has clearly passed his prime for Ghana after leaving several years ago.

The Minister of Youth and Sports, Hon. Ussif in a release yesterday summoned an emergency meeting with the GFA on Friday.

Infuriated Ghanaians reacted to the press release by demanding the dismissal of the coach and the technical team, as well as the dissolution of the management team of the Black Stars.
