Government Reintroduces Free Cocoa Fertiliser Programme to Boost Sector Growth
The government has officially reintroduced the Free Cocoa Fertiliser Programme, reinforcing its commitment to revitalise Ghana’s cocoa sector and support farmers with essential input subsidies.
Announcing the initiative at a press briefing, Minister for Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, disclosed that the programme takes effect from the 2025/2026 cocoa season and will offer cocoa farmers a comprehensive input package at no cost.
“Ladies and gentlemen, and to the cocoa farmer, I am pleased to announce that President Mahama’s Administration has reintroduced the free cocoa fertiliser programme as an additional support to the Ghanaian cocoa farmer, beginning the 2025/26 crop year,” Dr Forson stated.
Under the renewed programme, government will provide:
Free cocoa fertilisers (both liquid and granular),
Free insecticides,
Free spraying machines,
Free fungicides, and
Free flower inducers.
Dr Forson stressed that the initiative is targeted at improving farm productivity while easing the financial burden on cocoa producers. “Government strongly advises cocoa farmers to apply these inputs solely to improve cocoa yield and their income,” he added.
The reintroduction of the programme forms part of a broader package of interventions rolled out in the 2025/26 cocoa season to restore investor confidence, raise output levels, and enhance the welfare of Ghanaian cocoa farmers.
It also aligns with President Mahama’s broader agricultural agenda to modernise cocoa production, ensure sustainability, and reposition Ghana as a leading global producer of premium cocoa.
