Government to Make Over 16,000 Services Accessible via Upgraded Ghana.Gov Platform

The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, has announced that more than 16,000 government services will soon be made accessible to citizens through an upgraded Ghana.Gov platform, as part of broader efforts to modernise public service delivery and enhance digital governance.

Addressing journalists at a media briefing in Accra on Thursday, July 3, Mr George disclosed that the Ghana.Gov platform is currently undergoing a comprehensive redesign being spearheaded by the Ministry in collaboration with the National Information Technology Agency (NITA).

“The Ghana.Gov platform is undergoing comprehensive reengineering led by the Ministry and NITA to modernise citizen interaction with government,” he said. “The redesigned site, which will launch after the public tender process, will feature significantly faster access, full Ghana Card integration, and an intuitive, streamlined interface tailored for both individuals and businesses.”

According to the Minister, the new platform, once completed, will enhance transparency, convenience, and reliability in the delivery of public services, thereby eliminating the need for citizens to physically visit government offices.

“We intend to put 16,000 government services on that platform,” Mr George stated, underscoring the government’s commitment to digital transformation and efficient governance.

In a related development, Mr George provided assurances that while efforts are underway to strengthen digital systems, the fundamental rights of citizens, including freedom of expression, will remain protected.

He revealed that the National Misinformation and Disinformation Bill is nearing completion and is expected to be laid before Parliament during its upcoming session. The proposed legislation, he noted, is aimed at curbing the deliberate dissemination of false information online while safeguarding citizens’ right to free speech.

“The Bill is being carefully crafted to balance the fight against harmful disinformation with the preservation of free expression,” the Minister emphasised.

The initiatives, he added, reflect the government’s dual focus on modernising digital infrastructure while promoting responsible use of digital platforms in the country’s democratic discourse.
