Gov’t Orders Immediate Shutdown of Gumah FM Over National Security Concerns
The Minister for Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovations, Sam George, has directed the immediate shutdown of Gumah FM in Bawku following urgent national security concerns raised by the Upper East Regional Security Council (REGSEC).
According to the Communications Ministry, intelligence reports indicate that the station has been used as a platform to incite violence, disrupt public order, and escalate tensions in the conflict-prone region.
The Ministry stated that the decision to take Gumah FM off-air is in line with Section 13(1)(e) of the Electronic Communications Act, 2008 (Act 775), which grants the National Communications Authority (NCA) the power to suspend or revoke frequency authorizations in the interest of national security.
The NCA is expected to enforce the directive with immediate effect.
