Govt to build sustainable land administration system – Lands Minister

The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Mr Samuel A. Jinapor, has stated that the government was committed to building a sustainable land administration system that tackles climate change.

He said this at the closing ceremony of the 2024 International Federation of Surveyors (FIG) Working Week on Thursday in Accra.

He highlighted several initiatives, including the new Land Act (2020), the Land Symposium (2021), and the National Land Conference (2022), which aim to improve land management and empower stakeholders.

The Minister mentioned the Urban Redevelopment Scheme and the National Geospatial Policy as key measures promoting efficient land use and sustainable development, aligning with UN SDG 11.

Mr Jinapor noted the urgency of addressing climate change, citing rising global temperatures and the importance of implementing sustainable practices.

The conference theme, “Your World, Our World: Resilient Environment and Sustainable Resource Management for All,” underscored the critical need for environmental protection.

The four-day event brought together surveyors and industry leaders to discuss best practices for resource management. The conference outcomes will guide future initiatives, and Ghana remains committed to supporting FIG’s vision of a sustainable surveying profession.

The Working Week saw the election of new FIG leadership, with Greece and China taking the President and Vice President positions, respectively. Australia was chosen to host the 2025 FIG Working Week.
