GPHA Unveils Multi-Purpose Vessel to Strengthen Maritime Safety and Sustainability

In a move aimed at bolstering Ghana’s maritime capabilities, the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) has launched a Multi-Purpose Vessel at the Port of Tema.

This vessel, designed to handle a wide array of crucial operations, is expected to play a pivotal role in enhancing both the safety and sustainability of the country’s maritime activities.

Named after Mr. Gordon Anim, a respected figure in Ghana’s maritime industry who dedicated 35 years to the Port Authority, the MPV Gordon Anim is a significant step towards ensuring Ghana’s continued leadership in regional maritime operations.

During the commissioning ceremony, GPHA’s Director-General, Michael Achagwe Luguje, in a speech read on his behalf by the Director of Port of Tema, Mrs. Sandra Opoku emphasized the vessel’s importance for the country’s maritime growth.

According to the Director General, Mr. Anim’s legacy, which includes his tenure as Director of both the Tema and Takoradi Ports, underscores the importance of this new vessel.

He highlighted the vessel’s innovative design, which includes capabilities for oil spill response, hazardous material containment, and waste collection, all critical in promoting environmental protection and operational efficiency.
