GPL: Heart of Lions roar back to winning ways to reclaim top spot

Heart of Lions bounced back in emphatic fashion with a commanding 3–0 victory over Basake Holy Stars at the Kpando Sports Stadium on Friday in Matchweek 7 of the Premier League.

The Kpando-based side delivered a dominant display to maintain their perfect home record this campaign on the back of the side’s defeat to Gold Stars on Monday.

Lions took early control of the contest, carving out several chances before finally breaking the deadlock in the 36th minute. Michael Ephson’s low drive struck the post, and Kwadwo Obeng Junior reacted quickest to slot home the rebound for the opener.

Ephson, who was a constant threat throughout the first half, got his deserved goal just before the interval, calmly finishing to double the hosts’ advantage and send them into halftime firmly in command.

After the break, Holy Stars tried to mount a response but struggled to convert their limited opportunities. Lions, on the other hand, continued to press and eventually put the game beyond reach in spectacular fashion. Substitute Anthony Owusu scored a stunning long-range effort from his own half late in the game to make it 3–0, sealing a memorable win for the home side.

The victory sees Heart of Lions remain unbeaten at home this season and move up the league standings, while Basake Holy Stars’ struggles continue — still searching for their first win and goal of the campaign.
