Heart of Lions continued their impressive start to the 2025/26 Premier League season with a commanding 4-1 victory over Eleven Wonders at the Nii Adjei Kraku II Sports Complex in Tema New Town on Saturday, September 20. This win not only showcases their attacking prowess but also solidifies their position as early contenders in the league.
The match began with an explosive display from the home side, as Paul Attah Agyei broke the deadlock in the 23rd minute, finishing a swift and well-coordinated move. Just a minute later, Chauncy Freeman doubled the advantage with a stunning strike that left the Eleven Wonders defense reeling.
Despite the early dominance, Eleven Wonders managed to pull one back when Ebenezer Abban inadvertently turned the ball into his own net, momentarily narrowing the deficit. However, Heart of Lions quickly regained control, with Ishmael Addo restoring the two-goal cushion in the 86th minute. Macaulley Kojo Kume capped off a stellar performance with a fourth goal deep into stoppage time, sealing a comprehensive victory.
Etse Dogli was named Man of the Match for his outstanding contribution, helping Heart of Lions climb to second place in the league standings with two wins from two matches. Meanwhile, Eleven Wonders will need to regroup quickly after this disappointing defeat.
In another match, Hohoe United made their Premier League debut at the Hohoe Sports Stadium, drawing 1-1 with Young Apostles in a spirited contest. The home crowd erupted just three minutes into the second half when Ganiu Abass timed his run perfectly to flick home the club’s first-ever Premier League goal on home soil.
Young Apostles, eager to bounce back from their opening-day defeat, responded strongly. Clinton Opoku leveled the score in the 73rd minute with a beautifully curled effort, earning the visitors their first point of the season.
Statistics showed a balanced match, with both teams registering six shots and possession evenly split at 50-50. However, Hohoe United may regret missed opportunities to secure a memorable victory in their inaugural home match.
