GPL: Hearts of Oak’s struggles continue with fourth defeat in five games
Hearts of Oak endured another disappointing result under coach Aboubakar Outtarra as they suffered a 1-0 defeat to Accra Lions on Wednesday afternoon at the Accra Sports Stadium, marking their fourth loss in five games.
The team’s recent downturn contrasts sharply with their promising start under the Ivorian coach. Outtarra initially instilled a sense of belief in the club, guiding them to a five-game winning streak that fueled hopes of a potential Ghana Premier League title challenge.
However, their fortunes have taken a nosedive in recent weeks, with the club losing five of their last six games. Now, they find themselves in the midst of relegation conversations, with just four points separating them from the bottom three.
Facing Accra Lions, Hearts of Oak aimed to reverse their fortunes but suffered another setback when defender Ibrahim Issa’s 56th-minute goal sealed the victory for Lions.
Despite winning the possession battle with 53%, Hearts of Oak fell short as Lions showcased their attacking prowess with eight attempts on goal, one more than the Phobians.
The decisive goal stemmed from a brilliant team move initiated by right-back Ibrahim Issa from his own half.
With this victory, Lions bolstered their position in the league, currently sitting in third place and firmly in contention for the title.
