GPL: IGP Yohuno to Champion May Day Fitness Walk and Attend High-Stakes Hearts-Kotoko Clash

In a significant initiative to promote health and fitness, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has confirmed his participation in the May Day Evening Walk and Workout event today. This announcement came during a courtesy visit from the National Sports Authority (NSA), led by Director General Mr. Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, at the Police Headquarters in Accra.

The meeting aimed to strengthen collaboration between the Ghana Police Service and the NSA through sports and recreational programs. IGP Yohuno expressed his commitment to enhancing the physical well-being of police officers and fostering community engagement through sports.

In addition to the fitness event, IGP Yohuno will also attend the highly anticipated Ghana Premier League match between Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko on Sunday, May 4, 2025, at the Accra Sports Stadium. This clash of football giants is expected to draw significant attention from fans across the nation.

During the discussions, DCOP Lydia Donkor, Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department, highlighted the achievements of the Police Ladies football team and called for the revival of the Security Services Sports Association (SESSA) Games. COP Iddi Seidu, a member of the Police Management Board (POMAB), echoed this sentiment, suggesting the recruitment of talented athletes into the Police Service.

Mr. Ampofo Ankrah praised the Ghana Police Service for its unwavering support of football and the enhanced security measures at league venues. He endorsed the revival of the SESSA Games as a vital platform for identifying and integrating athletic talent within the security services.

As part of his ongoing commitment to fitness, IGP Yohuno announced plans for quarterly fitness days for police personnel, further emphasizing the importance of physical health in the force. His participation in both the May Day fitness event and the Hearts-Kotoko match symbolizes a strengthened partnership between the police and sports authorities.
