GPL: Medeama SC Appoint Ibrahim Tanko as New Head Coach
Medeama SC has officially announced the appointment of Ibrahim Tanko as their new head coach on a two-and-a-half-year contract, signaling a new chapter for the Ghanaian champions.
The club confirmed the decision in a statement released on Wednesday, stating that Tanko will take over from Augustine Evans Adotey, who will revert to his original role as technical director.
“Medeama Sporting Club is pleased to confirm the appointment of Coach Ibrahim Tanko on a two-and-half-year contract. The UEFA License A holder has completed formalities and replaces technical director Augustine Evans Adotey,” the club’s statement read.
Nicknamed ‘Bullet,’ Tanko brings a wealth of experience to the role. A former Ghana international, he holds a UEFA Licence A certificate, which equips him with the necessary credentials to lead the team effectively.
His coaching career includes time as head coach at Accra Lions and as an assistant coach for Cameroon’s national team, as well as Ghana’s youth squads, the Black Meteors and Black Galaxies. Additionally, Tanko has gained international exposure through coaching positions in Japan’s J League and Germany’s Bundesliga.
Tanko is set to oversee his first training session with the Medeama squad on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at the Akoon Community Park. He will officially take charge of the team on Thursday.
The former Borussia Dortmund forward’s debut match in charge will be against Legon Cities on Sunday at TnA Stadium. Medeama enters this fixture looking to turn their fortunes around, as they are currently winless in their last four matches.
