GRA readies to launch the Voluntary Disclosure Programme in January 2024
Commissioner General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), Reverend Dr Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah, has noted plans of the Authority to formally launch what it calls the “Voluntary Disclosure Programme (VDP)” in January next year.
The Voluntary Disclosure Programme, Dr Owusu-Amoah explains, is an initiative by the GRA that encourages residents in Ghana with operations outside the country and as a result, have offshore accounts to willingly disclose the accounts and the assets therein for taxation.
The disclosure of assets under the programme, Dr Owusu-Amoah noted, will be from January to March 2024 after which the GRA will approach these individuals who failed to disclose their assets within the given 3-month time period.
Speaking on the Joy News’ PM Express Business Edition monitored by norvanreports, Dr Owusu-Amoah averred the VDP is an initiative by the GRA to curb money laundering in the country.
According to him, the GRA already has knowledge of over 80,000 offshore accounts in over 40 countries held by residents in the country.
“The VDP will formally be launched in January and will end in March next year. The GRA has an anti-money laundering unit and it works in partnership with other institutions like EOCO to check money laundering,” he remarked.
why not start with individuals who have foreign accounts and yet are public officials whose salaries can’t justify the amount in those accounts?
