GRA to introduce reforms to improve tax collection

The Ghana Revenue Authority [GRA] has indicated that it will introduce more reforms aimed at improving tax collection in the country.

The Authority’s assurance comes on the back of low revenue mobilization and the projected GHS 100.5 billion revenue target for next year.

Commissioner General of GRA, Rev. Dr Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah, has indicated that the Authority is committed to dealing with issues pertaining to low revenue mobilization, adding that the Authority in 2022 will be looking at the digital space and targeting more e-commerce companies.

Speaking further, he also noted that the online tax filling system has been completed and so Ghanaians can pay their corporate income tax, NHIL as well as personal income tax online, and also through banks that have been linked to the Ghana.gov platform.

“We have completed our online filling system and when we started earlier on, there were certain things we couldn’t find but now you will be able to do your corporate income tax, do your NHIL, do your personal income tax all online and the same time, you will be able to pay taxes via all banks that are hooked unto the Ghana.gov platform. And so we are expecting that you should be able to sit in your office, in the comfort of your home, file and pay”, he said.

Dr. Ammishaddai added that the GRA has currently eliminated the situation where you go into a just any bank to pay and has brought the system where you can pay your taxes from your own bank especially when its linked to the Ghana.gov platform.

“Currently under the situation where you have to walk to just any bank and pay, will also be put behind us and now you can pay from your own bank. If your bank is connected to the Ghana.gov platform, you can debit your own account and credit your GRA account in that same bank without having to go the task office to file. Education has already started for the public and sensitization among our staff has also started”, he added.
