GRIDCo, ECG announce three-week power rationing amid maintenance works, gas supply shortfall
The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) have jointly announced the likelihood of load management measures extending for three weeks.
This comes as a result of ongoing maintenance by a Nigerian gas supplier, which is projected to last for the same duration.
In a joint communique, GRIDCo and ECG clarified that the maintenance operations have significantly curtailed gas supplies, thereby reducing Ghana’s overall power generation capacity.
The reduction in gas supplies, the two power companies noted, has already led to sporadic power interruptions since June 12, with further disruptions anticipated.
Acknowledging the inconvenience to consumers, GRIDCo and ECG expressed regret and assured that they are coordinating with other stakeholders in the energy sector to maximize the efficiency of available resources and mitigate the impact on electricity consumers.
