GSE-CI ends month of September with 47.21% returns for investors; market capitalization up by Ghs 1.89 billion

GSE-CI ends month of September with 47.21% returns for investors; market capitalization up by Ghs 1.89 billion

The Ghana Stock Composite Index (GSE-CI), ended the month of September with a year-to-date (YTD) return of 47.21 percentage points on share prices for investors trading on the local bourse.

The benchmark index, in the last week of September rallied as it gained 180.29 points to close at 2,858.17 points on Friday, October 1, 2021, translating into the YTD returns of 47.21 percent.

The GSE Financial Stock Index (GSE-FSI) also appreciated by 49.20 points over the week to close at 2,055.20 translating into a YTD return of 15.28%, making it the third weekly gain in a row.

Price gains recorded in the two benchmark indices resulted in the increase of the market capitalization of the local bourse by some Ghs 1.89 billion ending September with a total market capitalization value of Ghs 64.2 billion.

The share price gains were recorded in seven (7) equities namely; FanMilk, MTNGh, TOTAL, CAL, EGH, GOIL and SCB.

A total of 14.12 million shares valued at GH¢18.32 million were traded in the last week of September. The volume and value of traded stocks represent a significant increase of 178.69% and 138.92% respectively compared to the previous week.

In all, nineteen (19) stocks were traded in the week with MTNGH accounting for 57.15% of the total value traded.

Stocks of FanMilk in the last week of September performed remarkably well posting a week’s gain of 28.83% to return an impressive 226.85% YTD.
