GSE Deputy MD Champions Sustainable Financing at Ring the Bell for Climate Event

Deputy Managing Director of the Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE), Frank Mensa Berle, speaking at the 2nd Ring the Bell for Climate event alongside the COP29 on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, emphasized the vital role capital markets play in addressing climate change.

The event, part of a global initiative, showcased the potential of financial markets to fund green growth and combat environmental challenges.

Unlocking Opportunities through Capital Markets

“Capital markets have the power to unlock opportunities for funding clean energy projects, green infrastructure, and initiatives that protect and preserve our environment,” Mr Berle remarked.

Highlighting the tools available, he noted that vehicles such as green bonds and sustainability-linked investments provide the framework for financing impactful projects.

Showcasing Climate Action Projects

The event spotlighted two innovative climate action initiatives by LMI Holdings and the La Emmaus Cluster of Schools.

  • LMI Holdings Solar Energy Project

LMI Holdings unveiled its transformative solar energy project, designed to harness renewable energy for a sustainable future.

The project exemplifies how businesses can align profitability with environmental responsibility, showcasing the corporate sector’s capacity for impactful change.

  • La Emmaus Cluster of Schools Climate Action Programme

The La Emmaus Cluster of Schools presented its climate-focused initiatives, highlighting the role of education in driving sustainability.

Mr Berle praised their efforts, noting that “empowering young minds to be stewards of the environment” lays the foundation for long-term innovation and responsibility.

A Call to Action for Sustainable Finance

The Deputy MD urged investors, policymakers, and industry leaders to embrace sustainable financing, emphasizing the need for a resilient financial ecosystem to address climate risks and empower communities.

“Let us work together to create a resilient financial ecosystem that drives green growth, addresses climate risks, and empowers communities,” he stated.

Ringing the Bell for Climate Action

The Ring the Bell for Climate initiative celebrates the achievements of sustainable projects while rallying stakeholders to prioritize responsible investments.

“As we ring the bell today, let it serve as a clarion call—a call to action for sustainable financing, responsible investment, and collective effort in addressing climate change,” Mr Berle concluded.

This year’s event reinforces the Ghana Stock Exchange’s commitment to leveraging its platform to champion green growth and catalyze global climate action.
