GSE: Losers and gainers on Christmas Eve

Three (3) equities at the end of trading session on Christmas Eve – December 24, 2021 – recorded gains in their share prices.

The pack of three gainers was led by Ecobank Transnational International [ETI] with a share price appreciation of 55.56 percent with a positive year-to-date change of 75 percent.

At the end of trading session, ETI’s share price had appreciated to GHS 0.14 pesewas form an open price of GHS 0.09 pesewas.

Following ETI was Ecobank Ghana Limited (EGL) with a share price appreciation of 10.28 percent and a positive year-to-date change of 99.29% percent.

EGL ended trading session with a share price of Ghs 2.79 pesewas.

Société General Ghana [SOGEGH] which was the third gainer on the stock market appreciated by 1.69 percent ending at a share price of GHS 1.20 pesewas on Christmas Eve.

The remaining three (3) equities that recorded losses on the bourse include; MTN Ghana, GCB and TOTAL.

The 3 equities recorded 2.59 percent, 0.19 percent and 0.18 percent losses in share prices respectively, ending last week’s trading session with share prices of Ghs 1.13 pesewas, Ghs 5.24 pesewas and Ghs 5.48 pesewas respectively.

Meanwhile, the benchmark GSE Composite Index (GSE-CI) at the close of Christmas Eve gained 5.93 points to close at 2,817.74 points translating into a YTD return of 45.13%.

The GSE Financial Stock Index (GSE-FSI) also gained 74.95 points to close at2,151.85 points translating into a YTD return of 20.70%.

Market capitalization increased by GHS 889.51 million over the week to close trading at GHS 64.8 billion representing a growth of 19.16% in 2021. 

A total of 5.03 million shares valued at GHS 7.2 million traded during  the week, a decline in trade turnover compared to the 9.5 million  shares valued at GHS 12.2 million which traded the previous week. 

MTNGh recorded the most trades for another  week in a row, accounting for 61% of the total value traded.
