GSE Market Activity Slumps Despite Index Resilience
The equity market closed flat on Wednesday, with the benchmark Composite Index holding at 7,196.64 points, leaving its year-to-date return at 47.21 per cent. The Financial Stock Index advanced to 3,477.24 points, up 46.05 per cent since the start of the year.
Total market capitalisation remained unchanged at GH¢1.47 billion. Trading volumes, however, contracted sharply, with 409,119 shares changing hands — an 88 per cent decline from the previous session. The trades were valued at GH¢4.4mn.
Gains were recorded in GCB Bank, GOIL, TotalEnergies Marketing Ghana and NewGold ETF, which closed at GH¢12.12, GH¢2.33, GH¢31.97 and GH¢407.92 respectively.
MTN Ghana dominated activity, accounting for 311,275 shares worth GH¢1.15mn. SIC Insurance, Ecobank Transnational, CAL Bank and the NewGold ETF followed in terms of turnover.
