GWCL Announces Temporary Interruption of Water Supply in Eastern Accra Due to Transmission Line Issues
Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) has announced an interruption in water supply affecting the eastern part of the Greater Accra Region, beginning Sunday, 25th August 2024.
The affected areas include Dodowa, Oyibi, Frafraha, Adenta, Madina, Ashongman, Haatso, La, Osu, Kanda, Airport Residential Area, Legon, and the surrounding communities.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, August 27, GWCL states that the disruption was caused by a burst in the transmission line from the Kpong Treatment Plant to the Dodowa Booster Station, impacting the northeastern part of the metropolis.
While initial repair work has been completed, additional issues have been identified on the same transmission line, necessitating another shutdown. According to GWCL, its engineers are currently working to replace the weakened section of the transmission line to restore water supply to affected areas as soon as possible.
GWCL is therefore urging residents in the affected areas to conserve the water they have in their receptacles to mitigate any further inconvenience.
The company has assured the public that the situation is under control, with efforts underway to complete repairs by the close of day on Wednesday, August 27, 2024, after which water supply will resume.
In the interim, measures have been put in place to serve the affected areas, including the provision of water tankers to essential service providers such as hospitals and schools.
“The management of GWL deeply regrets the inconvenience that the interruption has caused and pleads with consumers to bear with the situation,” GWCL noted in the statement.
