GFA President Expresses Disappointment in Black Stars’ AFCON Qualifying Performance

Ghana FA boss Kurt Okraku has voiced his disappointment and frustration over the Black Stars’ recent performances in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

The team’s shocking loss at the Baba Yara Stadium against Angola, which ended a 24-year unbeaten streak, has particularly troubled him.

Since taking the helm of the GFA in 2019, Okraku has consistently communicated his expectations for the team’s success. Previously, he expressed optimism about the Black Stars’ potential for a strong performance at the 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast.

However, recent setbacks have led him to call for a united effort to enhance the state of football in Ghana.

During a visit to the team’s camp on Tuesday, October 8, Okraku stressed the need for the four-time African champions to reclaim their legendary fighting spirit.

“I hope this will be the last day I appear before all of you not only to appeal to your hearts but your conscience. The indomitable fighting spirit of the Black Stars has to be resurrected,” he said.

“The honeymoon period is gone. It’s time to show aggression, it’s time to show desire, it’s time to show the willingness to go the extra mile for Ghana,” he added.

The Black Stars will face Sudan at the Accra Sports Stadium on matchday three on Thursday, October 10, before heading to Libya for the return match on October 15.
