Europa League: Hojlund Gives Amorim Winning Start At Old Trafford, Roma Hold Spurs

Manchester United marked Ruben Amorim’s first game at Old Trafford with a 3-2 Europa League victory over Bodo/Glimt, as Rasmus Hojlund netted a double. Meanwhile, Tottenham was held to a 2-2 draw by Roma on Thursday.

United trailed late in the first half against Bodo/Glimt but recovered to secure their second consecutive Europa League win since sacking Erik ten Hag, having started the campaign with three draws.

The hosts scored in the second minute of Amorim’s debut, with Alejandro Garnacho tapping into an empty net after Hojlund blocked a clearance from visiting goalkeeper Nikita Haikin.

However, United’s defensive frailties were exposed when Hakon Evjen equalized in the 19th minute, followed by Philip Zinckernagel putting Bodo/Glimt ahead shortly after. United looked short of ideas until Hojlund flicked home a cross from Noussair Mazraoui just before halftime.

Less than five minutes into the second half, Hojlund scored again, prodding home a pass from Manuel Ugarte to reclaim the lead. Despite a moment of scare when goalkeeper Andre Onana handled outside his area, United held on for a satisfying home debut for Amorim.

In London, Spurs failed to build on their impressive weekend win against Manchester City, as Mats Hummels scored in injury time to earn Roma a 2-2 draw. Son Heung-min converted an early penalty, and Brennan Johnson restored Spurs’ lead before Hummels struck late to deny them victory.
