GSE Market Activity Surges as Trading Volume More Than Doubles
The Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) saw a significant spike in trading activity, with the volume of shares traded surging by 105.91% to 996,281 shares from the previous 483,839 shares.
The total value of trades also jumped 144.25% to GHS 3,741,340.42, compared to GHS 1,531,789.26 recorded in the prior session.
Despite the increase in trade volumes, overall market capitalization dipped by GHS 90.99 million to GHS 117.06 billion, reflecting a slight downturn in market performance.
Top Traded Equities
Ecobank Ghana Limited (EGH) led the market in trade volume, exchanging 502,718 shares valued at GHS 3,141,984.77.
Other active stocks in the top five included CAL Bank (CAL), MTN Ghana (MTNGH), Fan Milk Limited (FML), and Société Générale Ghana (SOGEGH), though their trading volumes were considerably lower.
Market Indices Decline
The GSE Composite Index (GSE-CI) shed 6.76 points, closing at 5,220.77 points, bringing its Year-To-Date (YTD) return to 6.80%.
Similarly, the GSE Financial Stock Index (GSE-FSI) fell 9.49 points to settle at 2,463.17 points, with a YTD return of 3.46%.
