Hearts of Oak paired against Algerian side JS Saoura in the Confederation Cup playoff

After being relegated to the CAF Confederation Cup following their annihilation at the hands of Wydad Athletic Club, Hearts of Oak has been drawn against another North African side, JS Saoura from Algeria’s top flight.

The draw which took place in Cairo, saw 32 clubs from across Africa set into four different pots. Hearts were in Pot 3 which was made up of the lowest-ranked teams from the CAF Champions League.

JS Saoura were in pot 2 which consisted of the eight lowest-ranked teams from the Confederation Cup.

Hearts will be pursuing the Confederation Cup as a route to bounce back, after falling apart in Morocco in the last preliminary round of the qualifiers for the CAF Champions League.

Hearts of Oak will be hosting JS Saoura in the first leg in Ghana with the fixture scheduled between November 26-28 and then will travel to Algeria for the return leg which is scheduled between December 3-5.

The winner of the tie over the two legs will advance to the 2021/2022 CAF Confederations Cup group stages, a competition that was first won by Accra Hearts of Oak after they beat rivals Kumasi Asante Kotoko.
