Super Clash: Ghana Premier League Resumes This Weekend As Asante Kotoko take on Hearts of Oak

The Ghana Premier League is set to make a thrilling return on Friday, December 13, 2024, following a brief hiatus for the general elections.

The key of fixture of the resumption will undoubtedly be the much-anticipated showdown between arch-rivals Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak, scheduled for Sunday at the iconic Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.

Hearts of Oak enters this encounter brimming with confidence, having secured four victories in their last five league matches.

The Phobians are determined to end a frustrating six-year winless streak in Kumasi, with their last triumph at the Baba Yara Stadium dating back to April 29, 2018, when Patrick Razak netted the decisive goal. Despite their current form, the Phobians have faced challenges against Kotoko, managing to win only one of their last six league meetings since March 2023.

On the other hand, Asante Kotoko returns to their home ground after a four-month closure but has been grappling with recent struggles, suffering four defeats in their last five games.

Nevertheless, they remain a formidable opponent, boasting an unbeaten record against Hearts since the 2020–21 season under the guidance of coach Dr. Prosper Ogum.

Currently, Hearts of Oak occupies the sixth position on the league table, with 19 points, just one point clear of their seventh-placed rivals, Kotoko.

Both teams are eager for victory—not only to enhance their league standings but also to claim the coveted bragging rights in this storied rivalry.
