Chelsea and Real Betis Claim First-Leg Wins in Europa Conference League Semi-Finals

The Europa Conference League semi-finals kicked off with thrilling action as Chelsea and Real Betis both secured crucial first-leg victories, putting them on the path to the final.

Chelsea Dominates Djurgården

In Stockholm, Chelsea showcased their quality with an emphatic 4-1 win over Swedish side Djurgården. The match began with Chelsea asserting their dominance early, as Jadon Sancho opened the scoring in the 13th minute with a close-range finish.

Despite Djurgården’s attempts to respond, Chelsea continued to press. Marc Cucurella nearly doubled the lead shortly after, but it was Noni Madueke who found the net next, making it 2-0 with a superb near-post finish just before halftime.

The Blues maintained their momentum after the break, with Nicolas Jackson scoring twice in quick succession (59′ and 65′) to extend the lead to 4-0. Djurgården managed to grab a consolation goal through young talent Isak Mulugeta in the 68th minute, marking his first-ever goal for the club. However, the damage was done, and Chelsea left with a commanding advantage ahead of the second leg at Stamford Bridge.

In Sevilla, Real Betis also took a step closer to their first major European final with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Fiorentina. Abde Ezzalzouli put the home side ahead early, scoring in the 9th minute and igniting the crowd at Estadio Benito Villamarín.

While Betis dominated the opening exchanges, Fiorentina began to find their rhythm and created several chances to equalize. The turning point came in the second half when Antony, reviving his career after leaving Manchester United, scored in the 64th minute to extend Betis’ lead.

Despite a response from Fiorentina’s Luca Ranieri, who pulled one back in the 73rd minute, Betis held on for the win. The triumph leaves them poised to make history as they pursue a place in the final.

Looking Ahead

Both Chelsea and Real Betis will look to finalize their spots in the Europa Conference League final with second-leg matches scheduled for May 8. Chelsea will host Djurgården, while Betis will travel to Florence to face Fiorentina. With both clubs in strong positions, the upcoming matches promise to deliver high stakes and intense competition.
