Black Queens Begin Training Camp in Casablanca Ahead of International Friendlies

The Ghanaian women’s national football team, the Black Queens, has officially opened their training camp in Casablanca, Morocco, as they prepare for a series of international friendlies. Nineteen players reported to camp on Monday, with the team staying at the Ibis Hotel.

The technical team, alongside home-based players and management officials, arrived in Casablanca on February 16 via Air Maroc. Foreign-based players are also joining the squad, with Jennifer Cudjoe, Azumah Bugre, and Grace Asantewaa expected to arrive from the USA, Turkey, and Mexico, respectively, bringing the total squad to 22.

The Black Queens are awaiting the arrival of Mary Amponsah, the leading scorer in the Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League, who has been called up to replace the injured Alice Kusi.

This 10-day training tour, organized by the Ghana Football Association (GFA), aims to keep the team in peak condition and allows Head Coach Kim Lars Björkegren to evaluate and strengthen the squad in preparation for the upcoming Women’s African Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

As part of their training itinerary, the Black Queens will face the Atlas Lionesses of Morocco on February 21 at the Père Jègo Stadium, followed by a match against AS FAR Club just three days later.
