Individual pension bondholders rally at Finance Ministry; demand exemption from DDE
Individual Pension Bondholders gathered at the Ministry of Finance on Monday morning, demanding to be exempt from the ongoing Domestic Debt Exchange Programme.
Approximately 50 bondholders, sporting red arm bands, assembled at the Ministry’s premises, holding placards to voice their disapproval over the proposed inclusion in the programme.
Dr Adu Anane Antwi, the convener of the group, stated that they are rejecting the government’s proposed 15% coupon rate over a 5-year maturity rate and are seeking a complete exemption from the programme.
“We want to be totally exempted, and we want the government to officially declare us exempt, similar to the pension funds,” said Antwi.
The bondholders have submitted a petition to the Ministry and are waiting for a response from the officials.
They plan to remain at the Ministry for several hours, hoping to receive a positive outcome from the Finance Minister.
