Institute of Public Relations Ghana elects Esther Cobbah as new President

Esther Amba Numaba Cobbah, a distinguished communication professional with a plethora of accolades under her belt, has been elected President of the Institute of Public Relations, Ghana (IPR).

Her election, a highlight of the Institute’s 30th Annual General Meeting held on May 3rd, 2024, at the Rock City Hotel in Kwahu, Eastern Region, signals a new chapter for the organization.

Accompanying Cobbah in the executive lineup are seasoned professionals, each bringing their expertise to bear in advancing the mission of the Institute.

Donald Gwira, a reputable communication consultant, steps into the role of Vice President, while Solace A. M. Akomeah, from Ghana Water Limited, assumes the position of Honorary Secretary.

Abraham Otabil, representing the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, serves as Deputy Honorary Secretary, and Gabriel Nii Otu Ankrah, of Methodist Health Trust, takes on the responsibilities of Treasurer.

In her inaugural address, Cobbah outlined her vision of fostering a cohesive and vibrant professional community within IPR Ghana—one that commands respect both nationally and on the continental and global stages.

With a commitment to attentive leadership, she pledged to champion the needs and aspirations of members, embodying a spirit of service and collaboration.

Expressing gratitude for the honor bestowed upon her, Ms Cobbah attributed her success to divine providence, echoing the sentiment expressed in the words of Isaiah: “All that we have accomplished you have done for us… your name alone do we honor.”

Outgoing President, Mr. Mawuko Afadzinu, expressed confidence in the newly elected executives, affirming their capacity to steer the Institute toward further growth and prominence.

The Annual National Communications Summit, preceding the AGM, provided a platform for PR practitioners nationwide to engage in discourse on contemporary challenges such as misinformation and information overload. It served as a forum for networking, knowledge exchange, and professional development.

In a testament to the commitment to excellence, the Institute welcomed forty-seven practitioners into its ranks as Associate and Accredited Members following the successful completion of their professional accreditation processes.

As the IPR, under Ms Cobbah’s stewardship, embarks on this new chapter, the profession anticipates a period of innovation, collaboration, and continued advancement in the face of evolving communication landscapes.
