Insurance industry donates 2,015 pints of blood to National Blood Service; the highest by any institution in Ghana

The insurance industry led by the National Insurance Commission (NIC) has donated 2,015 pints of blood to the National Blood Service.

The 2,015 pines of blood donated to the National Blood Service, is a significant improvement on the 802 pints of blood donated to the Service in 2021.

Speaking at the closing ceremony for the 2022 Blood Donation Campaign organised by the NIC for the insurance industry, CEO of the National Blood Service, Dr Shirley Owusu-Ofori, expressed gratitude to the NIC and the insurance industry.

“The National Blood Service is indebted to the NIC and the insurance industry, we commend the NIC for mobilizing players in the industry to donate to the Blood Service,” she quipped.

On his part, the Commissioner of Insurance, Dr Justice Ofori, urged other institutions in the country to emulate the NIC, adding that the insurance industry is looking at further donating more blood to the National Blood Service next year – 2023.

“We believe that next year, we will break the record we have set for this year, and we urge other institutions to emulate what we have done, so we can build a strong national blood bank,” he remarked.

The NIC has set aside the month of August as “Blood Donation Month” for the insurance industry.
