Inter Miami finally confirm Lionel Messi signing
Inter Miami has officially confirmed the signing of Lionel Messi as a free agent, following his departure from PSG.
The World Cup winner has long been linked with a move to Miami, and the club has now finalised the deal, offering supporters a glimpse of the former Barcelona icon in their distinctive pink strip.
Major League Soccer (MLS) has also issued a statement, praising the signing as a significant moment for the league.
MLS Commissioner Don Garber expressed his joy over Messi’s decision to join Inter Miami CF and Major League Soccer.
He stated, “We are overjoyed that the greatest player in the world chose Inter Miami CF and Major League Soccer, and his decision is a testament to the momentum and energy behind our league and our sport in North America. We have no doubt that Lionel will show the world that MLS can be a league of choice for the best players in the game. We look forward to seeing his debut for Inter Miami in our Leagues Cup tournament later this month.”
Messi himself shared his excitement about the move and his decision to join MLS. He stated, “I’m very excited to start this next step in my career with Inter Miami and in the United States. This is a fantastic opportunity, and together we will continue to build this beautiful project. The idea is to work together to achieve the objectives we set, and I’m very eager to start helping here in my new home.”
Messi is set to be officially presented at an event on Sunday, providing fans with the opportunity to witness the iconic player’s introduction to the club.
His debut for Inter Miami is scheduled for July 21 in the opening match of the Leagues Cup, where he will face Cruz Azul.
