Interior Ministry, GNFS and SIC Life Sign Landmark MoU to Enhance Welfare of Fire Personnel
The Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, has presided over the signing of a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) and SIC Life Insurance Limited to enhance the welfare and financial protection of fire personnel nationwide.
The agreement introduces a comprehensive insurance scheme and a dedicated Welfare Fund designed to support both serving and retired officers, as well as their dependents. Sector stakeholders have described the move as a major milestone in strengthening the social protection framework for the Service.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Muntaka expressed appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama for prioritising the welfare and morale of Ghana’s security agencies. He also applauded Chief Fire Officer, Madam Daniella Mawusi Ntow Sarpong, the first woman to lead the GNFS, for what he described as exemplary leadership and her sustained efforts to improve conditions of service for personnel.
“This initiative ensures that the brave men and women who put their lives on the line every day receive the protection, dignity, and encouragement they deserve,” the Interior Minister stated.
Managing Director of SIC Life, Mr Solomon Twum Barimah, assured officers that the insurance package—covering critical illnesses and other key risk areas—will be periodically reviewed and enhanced to reflect the evolving hazards associated with firefighting and emergency response.
The MoU underscores government’s broader commitment to strengthening the welfare systems of Ghana’s security and emergency services. It is expected to significantly improve the safety net available to fire personnel and boost morale across the ranks as the GNFS continues its mandate of protecting lives and property nationwide.
