iWatch Africa’s Philip Kwasi Banini to Speak at FIFAfrica2025 in Namibia
Co-founder and Team Lead of iWatch Africa, Philip Kwasi Banini, has been selected to speak at the 2025 Forum on Internet Freedom in Africa (FIFAfrica), scheduled to take place later this year in Windhoek, Namibia.
Mr Banini will join a high-level panel discussion on the theme: “Reclaiming Truth and Trust: Citizen-Centered Solutions to Safeguard Information Integrity in Africa.” The session will explore innovative approaches being deployed across the continent to counter disinformation, hate speech, and online harassment, while promoting fact-checking, ethical journalism, and digital rights.
Representing iWatch Africa, he will highlight the organisation’s flagship initiative, DisinfoEye, a platform designed to track and address online abuse and disinformation targeting journalists and vulnerable groups. He is also expected to share insights from Ghana and other African countries on how citizen-driven, data-based solutions can advance digital safety and democratic resilience.
Hosted annually by the Collaboration on International ICT Policy for East and Southern Africa (CIPESA), FIFAfrica is regarded as the continent’s largest convening on digital rights and internet freedom, bringing together journalists, policymakers, technologists, researchers, and civil society leaders.
Mr Banini’s participation underscores iWatch Africa’s growing role in promoting transparency, accountability, and digital safety in the region. The session will also feature comparative perspectives from partners such as JamiiAfrica, with a focus on emerging disinformation trends in West and East Africa.
iWatch Africa noted that this milestone further reflects its commitment to safeguarding information integrity, empowering citizens, and strengthening digital democracy across the continent.
