CAF Champions League: Group Stage Kicks Off With Moroccan Derby Among Thrilling Opening Matches On 26 November

The excitement is palpable as the 2024/25 CAF Champions League Group Stage kicks off on November 26, featuring a host of thrilling matches, including an eagerly awaited Moroccan derby between Raja Casablanca and FAR Rabat. With 16 teams vying for glory, the tournament promises to deliver unforgettable moments and fierce competition.

This year’s group stage marks a significant chapter in African club football, where players and coaches have the opportunity to etch their names into history by lifting one of the continent’s most prestigious trophies. The derby clash in Group B is expected to be a highlight, pitting two of Morocco’s most storied clubs against each other, setting the stage for a fierce battle.

In addition to the Moroccan showdown, the tournament will see the debut of Maniema Union from the Democratic Republic of Congo, who face a challenging away match against Mamelodi Sundowns in Pretoria. The experience of the Sundowns will test Maniema Union’s resolve as they seek to make their mark in this elite competition.

Defending champions Al Ahly from Egypt begin their title defense with a home match against Stade d’Abidjan from Côte d’Ivoire. Known for their rich history and record 12 titles, Al Ahly are once again favorites, having dominated the tournament in recent years.

Another exciting matchup features the Orlando Pirates, who return to the group stages for the first time since the 2018/19 season. They will travel to Algeria to face CR Belouizdad, looking to revive their fortunes in this prestigious tournament.

The group stage, running until January 19, 2025, will see teams battle it out over six match days, with the top two from each of the four groups advancing to the quarter-finals. The tournament will culminate in the knockout rounds, with quarter-finals scheduled for March and semi-finals in April.
