Value of Mobile Money Transactions Hit GHS 323.2bn in June
The total value of mobile money transactions in Ghana stood at GHS 323.2 billion in June 2025, marking a month-on-month decline of 10.2 per cent from the GHS 360 billion recorded in May 2025.
This is according to the Bank of Ghana’s Summary of Economic and Financial Data for July 2025, which highlights a temporary slowdown in digital financial activity.
Despite the monthly dip, the data reveals robust year-on-year growth. Compared to GHS 224 billion recorded in June 2024, the latest figure represents an increase of over GHS 99 billion — a 44.3 per cent rise — underscoring the continued expansion of Ghana’s digital payments ecosystem.
In terms of transaction volumes, a total of 735 million mobile money transactions were recorded in June, down by 7.7 per cent from the 796 million transactions posted in May. However, this still marks a 14.1 per cent increase over the 644 million transactions registered in June 2024.
The data further indicates that the number of registered mobile money accounts rose to 76.4 million in June 2025, with 24.5 million active users recorded during the month. The float balance — the value of funds held in mobile wallets — also grew to GHS 28.9 billion.
Although June saw a softening in both the value and volume of transactions on a monthly basis, analysts say the strong annual growth trajectory reflects sustained confidence and demand in the mobile money sector, which remains a key driver of financial inclusion and digital transformation in Ghana.
