Mobile Money Transactions Reach GHS 354.1bn Value in August Despite Marginal Dip
Mobile money transactions in Ghana amounted to GHS 354.1 billion in August 2025, according to the latest Summary of Economic and Financial Data released by the Bank of Ghana (BoG).
The August figure reflects a marginal dip from the GHS 355.4 billion recorded in July but underscores the continued dominance of mobile money in the country’s financial ecosystem.
Transaction volumes rose to 831 million in August, up from 778 million in July, pointing to the steady uptake of digital payment channels. Registered mobile money accounts reached 77.7 million, of which 25.1 million were active, highlighting gains in financial inclusion.
Mobile money interoperability also posted improvements, with the value of cross-network transfers climbing to GHS 4.9 billion, supported by 26.4 million transactions.
Commenting on the data, industry analysts noted that while the aggregate value of transactions eased slightly, the consistent growth in volumes and active users reflects rising trust in mobile money for everyday payments, remittances, and business transactions.
They added that despite ongoing currency fluctuations and fiscal pressures, the resilience of mobile money signals the strength of Ghana’s payment systems and cements digital channels as a cornerstone of the financial sector.
