Jordan Ayew Joins Leicester From Palace

Black Stars striker Jordan Ayew has completed his switch from Crystal Palace to Leicester City as he continues his career in the Premier League.

The former Aston Villa and Swansea City forward is believed to have agreed a deal which fetches the Eagles around £5 million which could potentially rise to £8 million

“Leicester City Football Club is pleased to announce the signing of experienced striker Jordan Ayew from Crystal Palace on a two-year deal, subject to FA and Premier League approval,” the club wrote on its official website on Friday, August 23, 2024.

Ayew, who has been a key figure at Crystal Palace, joined the Eagles on loan in August 2018 before making the move permanent in July 2019. During his time at Selhurst Park, Ayew made 212 appearances, scoring 23 goals and providing 22 assists across all competitions.

Despite his contributions, Ayew’s role under new manager Oliver Glasner has diminished, with the forward starting on the bench in Palace’s recent 2-1 defeat to Brentford.

“I’m very happy to be here and I’m proud. I want to thank the Club as they fought hard to bring me here – it happened quickly and I’m so happy to be here,” Ayew stated with excitement.

Leicester City, having secured their return to the Premier League after winning the Championship are now focused on making a strong impact in the top flight.

The club, former Premier League champions, recently parted ways with coach Enzo Maresca, who moved to Chelsea after a successful tenure. Steve Cooper has since taken over as manager.

Cooper will reunite with Jordan Ayew, whom he previously coached at Swansea City. Additionally, Ayew will have the chance to play alongside fellow Ghanaian Fatawu Issahaku, who made a permanent move to Leicester City this summer after spending last season on loan from Sporting CP.

Ayew is set to join his new Leicester City teammates as they prepare for their Premier League match against Fulham at Craven Cottage on Saturday, August 24, with a 3pm kick-off.
