The Ghana Judicial Service has denied ill motives associated with the re-assigning of 2 High Court Judges by the Chief Justice.
The Judicial Service notes that the re-assignment of the High Court Judges was a legitimate exercise of the administrative powers of the Chief Justice, Justice Anin Yeboah.
A press release signed by Justice Cynthia, Secretary to the Judicial Service described as erroneous, assumptions ascribed to the Chief Justice’s decision on transferring Justice Charles A. Wilson from the High Court in Tamale and Justice Douglas Asiedu to Bolgatanga.
“The transfer was to address a pressing administration challenge undermining the efficient delivery of justice in the Region. The Executive of the Ghana Bar Association is aware of this pressing administration challenge,” read part of the press statement dated December 31, 2020.
Justice Wilson’s transfer, the statement added, was to take effect from January 6, 2021 – after the Christmas vacation – and was also directed to start work on January 11, 2021, until his release to return to Tamale which is his station.
But according to the Judicial Service, the transfer of the 2 High Court Judges has been misconstrued by the media to be backed by ill motives.
“It is therefore regrettable that the implementation of these measures intended to promote the smooth administration of justice has been misconstrued by some sections of the media. The Judicial Service wishes to assure the public of its commitment to uphold the law at all times in the discharge of its mandate,” the statement further read.
